"The Doctrine of Essence" is among the most difficult texts in Hegelian philosophy. Typically, attention focused exclusively on the first section, which contains Hegel's theory of contradiction. Instead, this volume includes essays on all sections, including their connection to the preceding logic of being and to the doctrine derived from this concept. It additionally examines Marx's reception of the work, thereby fully disclosing Hegel's work.

Das Bose ist die zentrale Herausforderung fur das Denken der Freiheit. Die vorliegende Studie rekonstruiert historisch versiert den Problemzusammenhang von Freiheit und Notwendigkeit im Deutschen Idealismus und prazisiert den systematischen Losungsansatz Schellings um das Jahr 1809. Diese Neuinterpretation der Freiheitsschrift berucksichtigt auch die theologischen Fragen und die im Hintergrund wirksame Tradition des (Neu-)Platonismus.

Band 11 des Internationalen Jahrbuchs des Deutschen Idealismus widmet sich den Themen Bewusstsein und Selbstbewusstsein. Wahrend diese schon lange mit dem Deutschen Idealismus verbunden sind, erfreuen sie sich in der Philosophie seit einigen Jahren insgesamt wieder eines groen Interesses. Der Band nimmt dies zum Anlass, um sich intensiv mit Fragen zur Moglichkeit, Bedeutung und Rolle von Bewusstsein und Selbstbewusstsein auseinanderzusetzen.

This volume expands the concept and role of the schema, with three goals in mind: 1) to outline the continuing issues in the schema concept as the legacy of Kant s concept and analysis, 2) to show that Kant s challenges resulted in successful but truncated views of the schema and its functions, 3) to reconstruct Otto Selz s schema concept by proposing an alternative.
