Translingual Narration is a study of colonial Taiwanese fiction, its translation from Japanese to Chinese, and films produced during and about the colonial era. It is a postcolonial intervention into a field largely dominated by studies of colonial Taiwanese writing as either a branch of Chinese fiction or part of a larger empire of Japanese language texts. Watsuji's Koji Junrei is a book of impressions of a trip he took in 1918 to Japan's ancient capital of Nara, where he saw a number of Buddhist temples. By then, Watsuji had already published influential, groundbreaking books on Nietzsche, Schopenhauer, Kierkegaard and the book Guzu saiko (Resurrection of Idols).
