The Gottingen philosopher Michael Himann (1752-1784) has been the subject of considerable attention from historians of philosophy due to his materialistic positions. He conducted an extensive correspondence with friends and colleagues, including Christian Garve, Christian Konrad Wilhelm Dohm, Franz von Irwing, and Jakob Mauvillon. Himann's recently discovered legacy now makes possible an extensive documentation of this correspondence.

M.W. Lomonosov (1711-1765) war ein russischer Naturwissenschaftler und Dichter, ein Universalgelehrter der Aufklarung. Mit seinen Schriften zur Geologie und zum Berg- und Huttenwesen pragte er die Wissenschaften mageblich. Sie demonstrieren auf anschauliche Weise den Wissenstransfer zwischen Sachsen und Russland im fruhen 18. Jahrhundert. Erstmals liegt nun eine vollstandig ubersetzte und kommentierte Edition vor.

Zwischen dem Gottinger Mathematiker Carl Friedrich Gauss und dem norwegischen Astronom und Physiker Christopher Hansteen liegt ein reger Briefwechsel vor, der von 1832 bis kurz vor dem Tod von Gauss im Jahre 1855 wahrte. Erstmals wird hier eine kritische Edition der vorhandenen Briefe vorgelegt. Vorrangiges Thema ist die Erforschung des Erdmagnetismus, eines Gebietes der sich damals im Aufbau befindenden neuen Disziplin Geophysik.

Gottfried Ernst Groddeck (1762-1825) gilt als Begrunder der wissenschaftlichen Philologie in Polen. In Danzig geboren, studierte er klassische Philologie in Gottingen und war ab 1786 Hauslehrer und Bibliothekar des polnischen Fursten Czartoryski. 1804 wurde er Professor an der Universitat Wilna. Seine Korrespondenz ist eine wichtige Quelle fur den Einfluss der deutschen Philologie und fur die Geistesgeschichte in Polen und Russland.
