Daniel N. Stern, geb. 1934 in New York City, gest. 2012 in Genf, war als Psychoanalytiker und Kinderpsychoanalytiker einer der führenden Spezialisten der Säuglingsforschung. Er orientierte sich bei seiner empirischen Säuglingsforschung an einem psychoanalytisch orientierten Verständnis der Persönlichkeit, beobachtete aber keine Alltagssituationen, wie dies von seinen psychoanalytischen Vorgängern praktiziert wurde, sondern schaffte experimentelle Situationen. Stern wurde im Jahr 1999 mit dem Internationalen Sigmund-Freud-Preis für Psychotherapie ausgezeichnet.
