It was the year 1952 when young Jimmy Dultan was about to face the most challenging moments of his life. Jimmy didn't have many friends to confide in and times were tough. Deep in his imagination, Jimmy would escape this world of reality and try to find his worrisome answers from his imagination. Jimmy sat on his bed thinking about his troubles. Trying to get comfortable, he slid his feet under the covers, and stared at the toys that sat in the corner of his room. He sat there and stared at his toys until his vision began to blur. Slowly he closed his eyes and Jimmy drifted off into his imaginary world. Jimmy imagined a train track stretching way off into the distance and disappearing behind a mountain. On the other side of the track was an old cowboy sitting in a rocking chair. The old cowboy reminded Jimmy of his neighbor Herman. Herman wore a straw hat with pointy cowboy boots, blue jeans, and a red checkered cowboy shirt. He was slowly rocking back and forth in his rocking chair while playing his banjo to the beat of Oso's hoove steps Off to the side, walked a well-groomed, muscular fifteen-hand quarter horse named Oso. He was dark brown in color with a beautiful thick black tail and mane. When the sun hit his mane, it appeared to gleam in the sun's rays and turn glossy black. There beside Oso stood his owner Cowboy. Cowboy was a little rough on the edges and not as pretty as Oso. His face was covered with stubble as if he hadn't shaved in three days.
