The year is 2555, and the world is a different place. 2015 is to 2555, as 1475 is to 2015. There are two classes of people: The unspeakably poor, accounting for 25% of the population; they work and live in mostly inner cities; and the upper wealthy, now no longer the top 1%, yet comprising of a steadfast 75%. And that changes everything, including crime and punishment. The world leaders are all now mostly women, with most of the men having been killed off in war, World War III to be exact, between the United States of America and Russia, and that breeds a completely new type of world indeed. No more jail cells. No more death penalty. Because you see, with the help of computers, everyone has a counterpart. There is always someone who can help someone else ........................... and punish someone else too, if that is what the new era commands. Welcome to the new world, a world where the United States, where although it was predicted would be in ruins by 2555, is alive, well and thriving. Crime and punishment, run by women with their women's ways, ideologies, and mechanisms have created a new environment for punishing the wealthy 75% of the masses. The other 25% remained the same-barbaric compared to the standards of the day. And there was no question as to what group you belonged to, like there is today. There are no more district attorneys, only state run attorneys that decide the direction of each defendant's fate. The only problem is, sometimes states attorneys commit crimes too. Christopher Martin, a state's attorney assigned to District 2, had the misfortune of being caught killing his wife. Yet his punishment is something completely unexpected and not at all what it is expected to be. But then again, the year is 2555.
