Reading is a goal directed activity. Text information that closely matches a reader s goal is more relevant, whereas information that does not match the goal is less relevant. This book presents a taxonomy of relevance instructions and summarizes research on this topic. A model of goal-focusing is presented that explains how relevance affects text processing. Matthew T. McCrudden received his PhD in Learning and Technology
from the Department of Educational Psychology at University of
Nevada-Las Vegas in 2005. Since then he has been an assistant
professor of educational psychology at the University of North
Florida (USA) and a senior lecturer at Victoria University of
Wellington, New Zealand.
