Since independence,India has been undertaking developmental projects to improve the quality of life of its people through planned development. Especially in the Himalayan region a number of hydro power projects have been established. Some of the important hydro power projects in region are Nathpa-Jhakri Hydel Project (1500 MW), Kol Dam (800 MW),Bhakra Dam (600 MW)Luhri Hydroelectric Project(465 MW) Parbati project (1,900 MW) and Tehri Dam Project(600 MW. For the construction of these power projects large-scale land is acquired from local people. This results in displacement of people to some other areas. Although, economic compensation is provided to these families but, however very little efforts is made to understand the socio-psychological aspects of the displacement. Thus in the present book authors have made attempts to analyze the psycho-social impact of displacement due to the construction one of the largest(1500 MW) underground hydel power project(NJPC) in one of states of Himalayan region (INDIA), i.e. Himachal Pradesh. The main focus of study was to understand the status of mental health of these displaced people.
