Salmonella spp. is one of the most important pathogens of man and animals. Their wide distribution, food borne nature, possession of multiple virulence factors and increasing antimicrobial resistance make them pathogen of significant public health importance. Objective of the present study, therefore, was to develop PCR protocols for the detection of Salmonella with special reference to Typhimurium and Enteritidis and as well as to assess PCR techniques for the epidemiological typing of Salmonella.
