This textbook has been completely revised and updated. Its contents have been reorganized to better match the sequence of topics typically covered and to reflect the many changes brought about by the use of computers in the classroom. These changes include the use of iterative methods for linkage position analysis and matrix methods for force analysis. BASIC language computer programs, developed on a personal computer, have been added throughout the text to demonstrate the simplicity and power of computer methods. All BASIC programs listed in the text have also been coded in FORTRAN 77 and listed in Appendix Three. The text can now be used with either US units, SI units, or a combination of both. Where the units of an equation must be specified, both a US and an SI form are given. An effort has been made to maintain a balance between analytical and graphical methods.
