In the area of health, adult education programmes emphasize upon issues like environmental sanitation, personal hygiene, common health problems due to communicable and non-communicable diseases, precautions for good health, family welfare, family planning methods, public health services and facilities, population education, gender equity, age at marriage, nutrition, reproductive health. Health issues are covered in adult education primers, post-literacy and continuing education materials, training programmes, extension activities of government and non-government agencies, mass media etc. Neo-literates are the major beneficiaries of continuing education programme and they are provided with health knowledge on various aspects through different activities of continuing education workers i.e., preraks. To what extent the preraks are possessing health awareness on different issues can be noticed only through proper studies. The present study focuses its attention on health awareness among preraks in the areas of communicable and non-communicable diseases, nutrition, mother and child care in order to suggest suitable measures.
