Gratitude is a positive emotion, most commonly defined and understood in the context of reciprocal relationships. Through the use of phenomenology and thematic content analysis as the chosen qualitative methods, 3 couples share their stories and experiences of gratitude, enhancing our knowledge of the role that gratitude plays in successful couple relationships, uncovering important aspects, and providing deeper understanding of this powerful emotion. We learn through the narratives of these couples that gratitude is ever-present in the fields of our lives. Gratitude is identified as a foundation-a cornerstone to the unity found in the participants relationships. Gratitude is an emotion, an experience, and a conscious choice in awareness. It is through gratitude that connection within relationships is both fostered and strengthened. Also uncovered in this study are the transpersonal qualities of gratitude; wherein the experience of gratitude transcends the individual, transcends the relationship, and transforms all who are open to receiving the embrace of this emotion, for at its core, gratitude holds an experience of universal belonging.
