A collection of essays, mostly written at Oxford University during 2005, this book is meant as a brief guide to orient undergraduate and postgraduate study on the nature of, and relations between, the Greek East and Latin West in the Middle Ages. The book is divided into three sections, one on the Latin West, another on the Greek East, and a further section on the relations between them two. The first two subsections are divided into selections on key historical, theological and spiritual events and ideas from the time. A concluding essay, written for and delivered at a lecture at St Mary's University College, London, in 2011, ties all the sections together.
