This study was designed to compare the pharmacokinetic parameters of Metronidazole in healthy volunteers and in human patients suffering from amebiasis (by confirming after Stool test). It was conducted in six healthy male volunteers and six male patients suffering from amoebiasis in Services Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS), Lahore, Pakistan, all individuals were between the ages of 25-40 years. Both groups were treated with Metronidazole 500mg orally per individual. Blood samples were collected at 0, 0.25, 0.5, 1, 2, 3, 6, 12, 24 & 36 hrs after oral administration of Metronidazole. Metronidazole concentrations in the plasma were measured by High Performance Liquid Chromatographic (HPLC) method. Pharmacokinetics parameters were calculated from plasma concentration- time profile data. Pharmacokinetics of Metronidazole in healthy volunteers and in patients with amebiasis which compared. Data was analyzed by statistical methods (T-test) and it was observed that there was no significant difference in pharmacokinetic parameters of metronidazole in healthy volunteers and in amoebiasis patients after oral administration found.
