In view of spectracular importance of Schiff bases (azomethines) lies in their formation of coordination compounds readily with metals. This is due to the presence of lone pair of electrons on the nitrogen atom and of the general electron donating character of the double bond. They also form five or six membered stable cheletes with metals if a functional group with a replaceable hydrogen atom, preferably a hydroxyl group is present near enought to the C-N group. Besides the ability to form complexes with metals, Schiff bases have innumerable applications in many fields namely, pharmacy, medicine, agriculture, textile, paints and pigments, industries, photography, catalysis and polymer technology. Even the metal-Schiff base complexes also could find a place in some of the above mentioned applications. The literature survey revealed that not too many Schiff bases have been derived from P-Toluic hydrazide and 2-hydroxy, 3-methoxy benzaldehyde. In view of all these facts the author has prepared a new Schiff base namely (Ortho-vanillin-para Toluic hydrazide) (OVPTH) and studied extensively about the behaviour of its metal complexes. The results are incorporated in this book.
