Born in 1961 to fisherman parents in the DRC, he was a schoolboy by the age of 7, and was nicknamed "petit génie" (little genius). His father was murdered at the end of secondary school, and he went on to higher education without any support, graduating with flying colors in 1987. War, hardship and illness all took their toll on him as he gained experience and a fertile, blessed mind.
