It all begins when Pat Montgomery is summonsed to the reading of her father's Will. This summons is an extreme surprise because Pat grew up believing she was a foundling, never knowing her father or mother. She must travel half way around the world to this Will reading, to a remote village, called Wendigo, in the Rocky Mountains. This she does with burning desire to at last find her birthright and especially to discover what happened to her mother. By fortuitous coincidence, Pat is reunited with her long-time friend and colleague, Hattie Sangster, who agrees to help with her quest. Through Hattie, Pat also learns of and visits Macabre Cove, a cove rumored to be a place of murders. As Pat becomes acquainted with more villagers, murders and deaths begin happening, all subtly connected with Macabre Cove. She and Hattie find themselves unexpectedly drawn into investigating these suspicious deaths while continuing to delve into the mystery surrounding Pat's mother, only to find a sinister secret.
